Someone to watch over me
Theodora did an excellent job explaining how she actually keeps up with all her social networking sites. I would never be able to "stay in the loop". I find it pretty interesting how people actually check their social sites before getting up and brushing their teeth (that part was funny). This reading was interesting to me because I never think adults are on facebook or other social sites as much as teens but nine times out of ten, they are. I think I'm the complete opposite from Theodora. I try to limit myself on facebook an twitter because I don't want to become addicted or lose my interpersonal skills. I have a friend who's on these sites constantly, it's horrible. Most people who are on facebook, twitter, tumblr and other sites every second of their lives aren't to good with face to face conversations or other interactions humans have and that's what I try to aviod. Although these social networking sites are fun and keep me updated with my friends, I try my best to stay off of them as often as I can.

you make a great observation here- social skills are lacking in those who spend so much time communicating virtually. That is a topic you will see come up a lot this semester.
ReplyDeleteI think that you really make some good points. I also didn't expect that older generations would be on these sites as often as they are in reality. I also have a facebook account because I think that it is a good way to keep in touch with family and friends who I do not live near and don't see all that often. But, like you said, I try to stay off it as much as I can because I fear that it will limit my abilities to interact socially face-to-face.
